Another Day of Ministry

Another Day of Ministry

Our team had another great day of ministry here in the Dominican Republic. Here are some thoughts about our ministry activities today…

Today we visited another sugarcane village called Boca de Chavon to run another VBS. This second VBS ran more smoothly than the first, but I was still amazed at how loving the kids are. They don’t hesitate to grab your hand, hug you, or sit on your lap. Their joy was obvious from their smiles and laughter at the simplest things like getting their picture taken or running their fingers through our hair (especially the girls with curly hair like me). The kids left an impression on me personally and I’m going to miss walking with a little dark hand in each of mine. I am so grateful for the opportunity to come here and experience this. Thank you for praying for us and please continue to remember us.

After we finished in the sugar cane village we went to a girl’s orphanage in La Romana. As we came through the door; a hoard of girls were anxiously awaiting our arrival. They grabbed our hands and pulled us toward the covered area in the courtyard. When we sat down on the tables they sat behind us and began to vigorously to play with our hair. The girls in our group (including me) had our hair parted with sucker sticks, plastic pieces, and bobby pins. We also had pigtails, cornrows, braids and ponytails as a final result. The lesson was about Jesus and the little children and at the end we made crowns out of bulletin board liner for them. Later on, we played baseball with some girls, while others re-braided our hair and played with jacks. As we left, they hugged us and told us goodbye. They waved to us on their bus as we left on ours. I’m glad we got to make such an impact today. Thanks for your prayers!!
